Threads

I had a teacher from one of my education courses who recently emailed me about this poem, stating that it explains her life. I thought it was pretty profound so I thought I would share it.

The Way It Is

There’s a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn’t change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold it you can’t get lost.
Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die; and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of the thread.
~ William Stafford ~

Life is life, tragedies happen, suffering occurs, but its the steadiness of our own convictions that define and dictate who we are. My hope is that our convictions and defining traits will allow us to be able to coexist in this universe nicely and respectfully with others.

On a side note, I took a typing test a couple of weeks ago and found out that I type 70 wpm with 95% accuracy. I credit all of these abilities to my job at Verio. How refreshing it is to say something nice about work...
